Parokya Ni Edgar Live in Singapore

Parokya ni Edgar is a Filipino band that was formed in 1993 by a group of college students. The band is famous and most lauded for its original rock novelty songs and often satirical covers of famous songs. The band has since transcended musical genres, varying styles from one song to another - alternative rock to pop rock, funk to rapcore, and so on - while providing comic relief to their listeners.

This band is introduced to me by Jhon and i fell in love with their songs ever since. True, i don't understand most of their songs (they have some in English) since i am still not familiar with Tagalog but music itself needs no translation.

When i heard they are coming to Singapore, i can't help but give a girly shriek of delight. They were suppose to come last year to perform with other famous Filipino bands but unfortunately, they didn't due to traveling problems.

We arrived at 6.45pm and Jhon's colleague (on the right) and a bunch of his friends were already inside. He was nice enough to save a spot for us

I was probably the only local fan but i really don't give a damn though i got to admit, it sure does feel like i was in the Philippines for that few hours. =P

But i got to admit, i was a tad disappointed that we had to go through 5 opening acts!

First is a local AMATEUR dance act that is just too embarrassing to watch.I got to give it to them that they have the guts to perform due to their obvious lack of talent but it simply too painful to watch. What was hilarious was when some naughty Filipinas shouted for more when they ended. Unfortunately, they didn't switch on their Sarcasm Detector and almost wanted to perform again! Thank God the MC nicely shooed them away.

Second, a band that had won some sort of a Filipino talent show (like American Idol but only Parokya Ni Edgar songs). They are not bad, singing songs from Red Hot Chili Peppers etc but too bad they have some problems with the instrument problems that kinda ruined it.

Third, i called them the Cellulite group because of obvious reasons to the lady in shorts. Okay, its not THAT bad but that is the first thing i see. What is bad than cellulite on stage? Boring songs. I was so bored that i was stuffing myself with Potato wedges and getting sleepy. Honest.

Fourth, the guy with the deep voice. I kinda like this band especially that they are singing songs acoustically from Dishwalla which brought me memories. Sadly, they butchered the electric guitar part of Audioslave - Like a Stone since they only had acoustic instruments. It was really disappointing because i thought they really did awesome with the song.

Last opening act is, i believe, is a local band. Spora-(spell?).They really brought the house down with hardcore songs from Megadeth etc. Nuff' said.

And finally, the group that we had been waiting for, Parokya Ni Edgar. I had high expectations from them and they hit it. I was also glad that they sang most of their old songs which i knew the most and i love it they are as naughty and playful as their songs.

Always willing to pose for the camera.

The O_O look

The lead singer said something in the lines of "I love you, bro" and the crowd asked him to kiss his mate. haha

Being naughty and this is actually nothing compared to one part where he dropped his pants to show his boxes while singing "Don't touch my birdie"

The D= look

This is real funny too. They are posing yet again but this time pretending to sing so that everyone could get a good picture. hahhaha!

I really enjoyed their performance though i wished they had sang "Minamahal kita" which is a special song for me and Jhon. Other than that, it was totally AWESOME!!!

I want more!!

By the way, a couple of old songs for you to listen. =P

Don't Touch My Birdie - its hilarious that he sang so seriously!

Buloy - kinda sad song about his friend committing suicide because he was depressed. Ironically, when they wrote this song, they just put his name for fun but turns out to be true. =(
