Our 'Dinner for Schmucks'

I was asked to choose between a movie staring Zac Efron or Steve Carell and before a single heartbeat, I choose Steve Carell. How can I not?

From shows like 'The Office', 'Get Smart', 'The 40 Year Old Virgin' etc, Steve Carell never disappoints.

Synopsis
"Tim (Paul Rudd) is a rising executive who "succeeds" in finding the perfect guest, IRS employee Barry (Steve Carell), for his boss's monthly event, a so-called "dinner for idiots", which offers certain advantages to the exec who shows up with the biggest buffoon"

I came with high expectations and the movie still blew my mind. There was never a dull moment and it has been so long since I laugh my ass off in the theaters. Steve Carell has really out did himself and I strongly recommend Dinner for Schmucks to everyone.

With scenes that are -funny-when-it's-happening-to-someone-else or just hands down screw ball hilarious with a touch of heartwarming scenes, you will definitely enjoy the entire movie and probably want to watch it again, at least Jhon and I did! =D

5 Stars!

On a sour note, I stained my shirt with a glob of chili sauce because I was covering my ears while holding a hot dog while watching 'Paranormal Activity 2' trailer. (yes, I cover my ears when I'm scared)

On a sour-er note, as we were heading home, a bird poop on me and landed perfectly on my upper arm as I raised it on Jhon's shoulder. =(

Quick Photolog of Last Week's Hari Raya

Hari Raya 2010 - Day 1

Nothing much to say, past week was a little slow; a few visitors, visited an open house and several other houses.

My favorite picture. hahaha
Before you jump into conclusion, Shibly refused to take a picture so he hid his face so my bro pretended to punch him. =P

Mooncakes Festival Happiness Without the Mooncakes

[I've been slacking, that's why the late updates so I am trying to catch up hehe]

Never a fan of mooncakes, just "meh" but I just love the boxes that they tend to be kept in especially its from a high end restaurant.

Being a Main Contractor in the construction industry also means free food and seasons such as the Mooncake Festival, my mentor tend to get hoards of food.

I usually give Jhon and his mates the mooncakes while I kept the boxes and this year, I got 2 cool boxes and 1 thermal bag. Could have been more but they were limited and have to "fight" with my colleague. hehe

From Mandarin Orchard,
looks insignificant, until you open it, its so cool! The girly part of me sprung out and immediately shouted, "WAH! CAN TURN INTO JEWELRY BOX!!!"

From Cuisine Chinese Restaurant,
this is the awesome-st bag ever!! I can imagine myself bringing this bag as a handbag and its made of leather, inside-out and its all mine! bwahahaha!

From Goodwood Park Hotel
I had their box last year but this year, it comes along with a thermal bag. I love it! Since I love picnics.

I am so happy even though I know it is very auntie-like. hehehe

How To Butcher an Innocent & Sweet Taylor Swift's "Love Story".

I came across to this video via a fellow blogger who I can't remember, a few weeks ago.

Naturally, I was equally freaked out and amused at this version of Taylor Swift’s Love Story video clip.

The problem is that without knowing it, the video had such a great impact on me that every time I hear the song on the radio, the terrible video springs into my mind.

HORRENDOUS!

The song will never be the same for me again!

I even posted it on my Facebook to share the horror and I want to do it here too. Hehe

Enjoy! [or not] =D

By the way, it has a “nice” twist in the end.

The Exploding 'Keropok Lekor'

I kid you not! While Jhon was helping to fry them, a few cracked and exploded, not in a way that its into small pieces but it definitely burst, enough to splatter hot oil on us.

Quick Info
Keropok Lekor is a famously known Malaysian snack that I absolutely love and mom bought a couple packets of frozen Keropok Lekor at Sheng Siong,Singapore.

I don't know exactly why it burst that way, maybe because it was still semi frozen inside what I know was it an enough pop to spurt hot oil on the both of us.

Jhon was hit mainly on his feet that resulted in mild redness. As for me, I was hit on my right thigh, left forearm and face! I freaked out when I felt heat on my face so I ran to the toilet to wash off the oil, fearing I might have a scar and vaguely wipe off the oil on other areas.

After calming down from , I still felt searing pain on my forearm and I realized that it was worst than I thought.

I quickly applied some medicine for burnt wounds and hope for the best.

I have wonderful splash design on my forearm now.

It was okay for 2 days but since I didn't apply cream on the 2nd day, the wound start to bubble. =(

I was anal retentive on how I place my arm and always freak out when Jhon almost hit it, fearing I might pop the bubble because I know it will hurt more than ever.

It has been 6 days since it happened, the bubble has subsided on its own (without popping!) but still have the splattered scar which is starting to itch.

I am taking good care of it to avoid a scar but if you ask me if it was worth it..

YES! 'Keropok Lekor' is da bomb!! ^_^

Walking Using RunMeter

My form of exercise has always been walking and although I have doing my walking with Jhon at least 1 year, this is the first time we use an application to track our walking.

Today was the day.

We walked from Bedok Interchange to my place.

We made a wrong turn at first, that's why the almost 1 circle walk in the beginning but it was smooth sailing all the way, passing Bedok Reservoir Park.

Took us about 1 hour 36 minutes to walk 6.73km and burnt 306 calories which was seriously nothing compared to the amount of calories we took per day. Well, at least we sweated like crazy. =)

Cool app. Its a must for all runner/joggers and walkers. ;)

Hari Raya 2010 - Day 2

Clearly an overdue post but here is it nonetheless, our outing on the second day of Hari Raya Puasa.

I brought my old digital camera and after using a DSLR for quite sometime, using it was a little awkward. In fact, many of my pictures are blurry for reasons I don't understand.

Standard photos before going out, Dad was already downstairs bringing out the car from the carpark.

Our first house is my grandmother's house (dad's side). She has been senile for more than a decade due to being over protected by my late grandfather. She has her moments but on that day, she was harmless like a kitten and we even took some pictures with her. For the first time, I also managed to kiss her on her cheeks.

My poor grandma, if you all must know, it is from her that we have our Chinese looking genes from because she is Chinese. =)

Men in their "naughty corner" Its so funny that their colors matched.

Next was grandfather's house (mom's side). It was the first Hari Raya without my grandma since she passed away a few months ago. He lost so much weight and the visit didn't last as long since its was grandma who always make the conversations longer.

Our 3rd stop of the day was to a cemetery. We visited my late grandma and also my sis's 1st child, Nadia Natasha.

We went to 2 more houses, mom and dad's sisters and we head home as we were expecting visitors in the evening and my oh my, they are not kidding.

The day ended while with lots of family updates such as 1 cousin getting engaged in a week, 1 cousin getting married next month and not to mention some juicy stories as well.

Especially that one cousin that visited my house high! -_-

Anyways, Selamat Hari Raya!

Hesitation is Spontaneity’s Enemy

On the 8th of September, I found out a flight 1 for 1 promotion from AirAsia and it was very tempting so I told my Mom about it. She wanted to go but she said she can’t go now since [insert personal reasons here] but she gave me the green card to go on my own.

I excitedly called Jhon about the great news and perhaps we can try to go Langkawi, Malaysia. As usual, Jhon is always keen if the money is right. As soon as we hanged up, I called Fizah, who was at noisy Geylang. We had difficulties communicating due to the noise. We could not discuss more and all I know her answer is yes.

The problem is, none of us has been to Langkawi and don’t know where to start. So I did a quick research on my own and try to gain confidence on my decisions on accommodations, locations and outings.

AirAsia promotion says that its booking period ends on 9th of September so I was thinking, perhaps I can sleep on it and confirm everything the next day.

I woke up with one thing in my mind.

By hook or crook, I will go to Langkawi.

To my disappointment when I wanted to check the flight promo again, it was over.
Turns out they meant 9th September, 12 midnight not 11.59pm.

SIGHS!

If only had my confidence, let my spontaneity take over and not such a people pleaser since I was keen on wanting Jhon & Fizah’s approval on my plans before I book. We could be busy planning what to wear & bring to Langkawi.

I am so regretful to the max since the flights now looked expensive to me compared to the promo.

Oh well, lesson learnt…. Hesitation is Spontaneity’s Enemy. =(

Hari Raya 2010 - Day 1

For the first time in many years, we did not bake our own 'kueh'/biscuits but instead store bought. We don't even have new clothes and the only clothes I had was bought 2 years ago while the others are too small since I was previously underweight.

And since my brother and sister has their own in-laws to visit, our first day of Hari Raya was a bit quiet but messy. Usually before noon, everyone would be ready in our traditional clothes and ask for forgiveness before heading to our grandparent's house but since they have their in-laws to visit, my parents and I just waited at home till they are done.

My pretty pregnant sis with her husband all ready for visiting.

Abang Jamil came by too with his best buddy, Abang Ahad Addy and played dead with Shibly.

Asking for forgiveness.

My bro and his family visited too with their newest family member, Syihab.

Since I was home the whole time with my parents, I kind of seek for forgiveness from everyone at random timings. But its okay, its not about the timing but the sincerity. I didn't cry at all since I know I did not do anything wrong even my mom did not give any comments. Just don't be lazy. =P
Anyways, we ended up spending the whole first day of Hari Raya at home with a few visitors. Hari Raya this year seems indifferent perhaps we are celebrating it differently from what we are used to.

Has it been a year already?

09.09.10 is not only the eve of Hari Raya but it is also a day that marks a complete year of blogging with Blogspot & Nuffnang.

Happy 1st birthday to zzanyy.blogspot.com!!

Although I have been blogging for over 5 years (via another source), Blogspot and Nuffnang is pretty much new to me.

The year has been good to me, readership is slowly but surely going up, so I am not complaining. In fact, I am glad that I made the move. I am glad that I am worth reading to some. =)

So after eating our 5 of 7 Hari Raya dishes (2 more to be cooked tomorrow morning), went out for a quick errand, I had a small celebration with a slice of cake! haha

Here is to more great years of blogging! =D

Learn to let go – Your unwanted clothes/things

This is one of the many problems women faced when it comes to cleaning up their stuffs especially what is in their wardrobe.

I, myself have that problem but I am much more aggressive when it comes to clearing up my belongings. That is why, my good buddy, Fizah recently asked me for tips for clearing up her wardrobe because when she opened her wardrobe, she sees a mess but don’t know what to throw away because everything seems “important”.

So I gave her my guidelines on how I clean my wardrobe and never have the problem of an overflowing mess. [Not counting the clothes I have that is hanged on the window, that is just plain laziness to keep them in their proper place >_<]

I mainly group my clothes/shoes/items into 4 piles.

Pile One
Definitely will wear/use - Keep them, for sure!

Pile Two
Worn out or “what the hell was I thinking when I was buying this? Not nice lor” - To be thrown or given away

Pile Three
I rarely wear/use it, 'sayang' it and it is still in a good condition – Promise to wear it often.

Pile Four
Used to be in Pile Three, 1 year had passed and I still have not worn it or had just worn once - Give them away.

The key idea is not let your attachment issues get the best of you. It is almost like breaking up. No point hanging on when it’s not doing you any good. haha

Anyways, Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all and if there’s anything that I wrote ever offended you, sorry, even though sometimes I intended to. haha I sound so insincere.

Okay! signing off to Pile Four!

The Controversial Hari Raya Commercial

I didn't know about this until a friend shared this in Facebook; a Hari Raya commercial aired in Malaysia by TV3.

What is so controversial about it? Watch for yourself.

Naturally, we would have two groups of opinions.

Group 1
Totally opposing to the the commercial since the Pak Cik (Uncle) on the flying rickshaw resembles a lot like Father Christmas and the lotus flowers that symbolizes Buddhism. I think the only factor that can be related to Hari Raya is them wearing Malay traditional clothes and cooking Malay food.

Group 2
People who don't see what is the big deal about the commercial and thinks people in Group 1 should have an open mind and not to over think about such factors. It is a creative presentation and it is a fantasy concept that ought not to take too seriously.

What do I think?

Generally, I think it has nice graphics but since it is a religious celebration, I think it should reflect more on its values and ideas instead of extracting that is very commercially relatable to other religions.

I mean, it is already bad enough by misleading that Hari Raya is full of magic and not faith but to take example from other religions? -_-

Pak Cik on a flying rickshaw? That is soooo "Original"

You know what? the fact that it is unoriginal in the first place, fails as a good commercial; never mind the religious factor. =P

My Mentor is Da Bomb!

If you read my previous entry, Venting Out Work Fail?, I was very stressed last week with work.

After a war that lasted a week, we have won. My fantastic mentor has stood her ground and we managed to take back our project at Downtown Marina and gave the other stinky project to someone else.

The problem was not entirely the project, but also everyone who was involved in it. The slacking engineers, the heck care Project Manager and massive politics. Imagine that for 4 years! yikes!

I am so glad one big hurdle has passed. :)

Venting Out Work Fail?

I wanted to blog and vent out my work stress that surfaced just two days ago. I even did a clip art to cleverly incoporate into my story to make it interesting...

But I gave up half way.

That is how exhausted I am with work and it turns out I don't even want to think about it.

sighs

Its about the passing the rotten egg to us and have to pass our beautiful Marina egg that has hatched into a chick to another person. What is worst, we have to catch up the 4month delay and the Project Manager is stuffing every trade through our nose as if we have no other work to do in hand.

That is just the jist of it and its okay if you don't understand, I am a zombie by now and zombies don't care!

I hope your days are better than mine.
