Hari Raya 2017 (Week 1)

Selamat Hari Raya to all Muslim readers!
We are at halfway mark to our month-long celebration, u'olls. lol

I swear I told myself that I would post on time but that obviously didn't happen. hehe Anyways, if you have been a long time reader, you should know that my hari raya has always been unconventional and I've come to terms to that.

Last year, we celebrated our first day of raya at Abg's house but this year, Kak Yana raised her white flag. lol This year, we celebrated at our place where Mak hanged out at our place for 3 days 2 nights. It's not an open house or anything but whoever wants to visit Mak (She's the eldest in the family), relatives can come over.

This year, we didn't have much kueh. In fact, only 4 types, Makmur, Bangkit, Suji and Florentines that Kakak made due the oven breaking down and we only get our hands on the last week of Ramadhan. As for Hari Raya dishes, I only requested Mak to cook Kuah Lodeh, Sambal Sotong and Serunding because those are the only dishes I look forward to.

On the first day of raya, Mak, Abg Jamil, Jhon and I just spent the time watching Hari Raya shows/movies while eating our Hari Raya meals. It was basically pretty slack and we even had naps in between.

We did our maaf-maafan in the afternoon and took some photos. Check out my at home jubah that actually belonged to Mak because I complained that all my at home pants/shorts are too tight for me. Yeah, I am at the point where I don't care what I wear anymore at home and dresses are ultimate heaven for me.

Abg and family only came over in the evening, makan-makan, story-mory, sorry-sorry and that was it. I was glad they didn't over-stayed because even though we didn't do much, the waiting game can be tiresome.

On the second day, our favorite family came by first to visit their favorite Mak Long and Pak Hitam and family came by next. It was actually the first time any of my relatives visited Abg Jamil's house and also the first time the house received so many guests. I am more than grateful that Jhon and Abg Jamil are so freaking helpful and hands-on in helping me to serve the guests.

This was also the day my relatives found out that I was 7 months pregnant. (I only blogged about my pregnancy and no one is truly aware of my active blog lol) After that, it was a wrap as other family members didn't come over anymore and that was our simple and chop-chop 1st week of raya.

Hari Raya 2016 - 12th Shawal

12th Shawal was actually for arwah Auntie Tipah's tahlil. At the same time, jalan raya. Initial plan was to squeeze in 1 or 2 houses before heading to Uncle's house but Abg had last minute work and we barely made it for the tahlil.

By the time we reached the house, the tahlil has long ended and people were starting to leave. But not before for a quick group photo.

My mom is the eldest but she tend to look the youngest. She is the healthiest too with no health issues. Alhamdulilah.

We sat down, mingled, ate and did the standard hari raya stuff lah.
Next, was Abg Awil's parent's house. Their mee curry sedap, nak lagi! With extra cockles!

We later zoomed to Pak Hitam's house.

And lastly to Cik Kam's house.

We wanted to squeeze in at least Pak Busu's house but they said they also went out jalan raya.
Sorry to say, this might be our last hari raya outing for the year. Abg has work and my siblings also have their in-laws' houses to visit.

This may also be my last Hari Raya post of the year so this is the end of the series.
Hope you all had a wonderful Hari Raya!
Gained weight tak? I know I did! hurhurhur!

Hari Raya 2016 - 6th Shawal

My mom is the eldest in her family so usually, we spend our first weekend at home and welcome all guests. Since Abg and Kakak has their family, Jhon and I always had to hold the fort. It's has always been a simple visit. Come over, eat the kueh, chit-chat and that's it. Our house pun has never been truly dolled up for Hari Raya. Always the same, always simple.

This year, since Abg has a new home, he asked us to come over. I mass messaged everyone if they wanted to see Mak, they had to go to Punggol. I don't want them to happily visit Kaki Bukit only to find out no one's home.

Some thought it was an open house which was funny. Plus, Mak was feeling unwell and it's nice for once, it's just more than me and Jhon welcoming the guests.

I am so happy Abg Jamil get to join us too this year!

Actually, Shibly was the sick one.

It was pretty much last minute. Supposedly welcome people to come from 12noon onwards but food was ready only after 1pm. haha Pak Hitam and family came by first and then Uncle's family. Abg and Kak Yana was not home yet from grocery shopping so Jhon and I had to man the house.

Luckily, we were no strangers to Abg's house so we knew our way around.

Happy siblings are happy.

Kakak and family managed to come over too which I was really happy about. I tell you, it's hard to have us together for Hari Raya besides having to visit relatives. They just didn't wear baju raya which spoil the feeling but it's the thought that counts. hehe.

Accidental children. Yes, I bullied Shibly by dragging him off the bed to take a picture with us. In my defence, I did ask him if it's okay and he has to get up to have lunch anyways.

NADIA!

Actually, Jhon just wants a photo with Nadia but this other Abg kecik sibuk.

Quick trip to the swimming pool. I was jealous!

Too cold.

Butt crack.

After that, Pak & Mak Busu visit and Cik Kam a& family next.
Yet again, the house filled with chatter and laughter.

I got to say, for the first time for probably after more than a decade, I truly felt the feeling of Hari Raya. I was not the only one feeling it too. It was a wonderful warm feeling to see everyone in their beautiful outfits, eating good food with feel good vibes.

You see lah, these people. lolol

Blurred photo but essence captured. Kecoh pe.

This photo is funny because Irfan has always been fearful of Abg. This hug was a big deal. haha

I am grateful for Abg's idea albeit a last minute one. One thing for sure, it's going to be a yearly thing and hopefully, Kak Yana and Abg will be prepared by that time.

Now, if only Ayah could join us too...
