Saga Seeds with a Story

Whenever I see these beautiful red saga seeds, I will always think of an adventurous and unexpected exploration.

Fizah, Jhon and I have always been avid fans of trekking/trailing but the spots that we always go are MacRichie Reservoir or Southern Ridges Park. So we decided to venture to other parks and we chose the Western Park Connector.

The journey to the beginning to the route was already an interesting journey because you see, this is the first time any of us heading there. It was also a first for Jhon to take an LRT. He was a timid but excited boy that day.

The start of the trailing was rather exciting for us because it was a completely new route with different sceneries. We can’t what was in store for us. The "dirt" photo on the right is actually a race track for RC cars under the expressway bridge!

First encounter was a good one. We found a playground. Without skipping a beat, the inner child of me burst out to play. At first it was just me, climbing and when I needed help to climb back down, I got scared like a kitty cat and there was when Jhon came to my rescue. He got hooked and completed the “course” with me.

After what seems to be a never ending ZhengGhua route, we came to a forked road. Instead of turning left, we went straight and thus the beginning of a confusing and lost road ahead.

We kept going straight. No doubt our gut feelings were telling us that we were going to the wrong way but perhaps fascinated with the view, we ignored them. This is also the place I managed to sprain my right ankle. Luckily, it was not serious and managed to walk normally; I just can’t put all my weight on it.

We trudged on until we came upon a road with a road sign stating McRitchie Reservoir further ahead. WHAAT?? Thank God for smart phones, we used the map to know where we were. Do you know that if you are surrounded with greenery, all you see in the map is this?

So we traced back our steps and decided to turn right (instead of retrace until the spot we made the wrong turn) and that was when we realized that we have entered Bukit Timah (Singapore’s highest hill). Not only that, we managed to choose the most difficult route UP the hill and DOWN hill.

I sprained the same ankle again but on the other side and we were EXHAUSTED. One thing, we were not mentally ready to climb a steep hill and we were running out of water. WHY IS THERE IS NO WATER AT THE TOP OF THE HILL??! Jhon was so cranky and disappointed that he zoomed down leaving us behind for a good 20minutes. We didn’t even think of taking pictures although reaching the peak via a difficult route was an accomplishment.

After much agony going down the steep steps with nothing but rocks, we eventually made it to the other exit. We drank 6+ cans of H-TWO-O and rested as much as we can. At the resting spot, I saw the map and do you know what the route we walked??

We walked according to the red arrows when we should be walking according to the yellow arrows!!!

After that entire ordeal, we even considered to continue our initial trekking route!

After reenergizing and filling up our bottles, we continued with our walk and as soon as we reached the entrance towards the dairy farm, I saw beautiful red beads on the ground.

It was saga seeds! I absolutely love them because they look gorgeous and I have been ranting about them to Jhon. Naturally, I picked them up and I saw more and picked up more and more and more!!

Jhon was reluctant at first until he helped and he too went crazy even as I said enough and we should move on. It didn’t help that Fizah spotted even more still dangling from their trees. Poor Fizah wanted to pick some for herself but she has difficulty bending over because of her back. Don’t worry, I gave half of the saga seeds to her.

After spending probably 1+ hour picking and throwing sticks at trees so that the seeds will fall, we decided to postpone our Western trail and head back to the resting spot. Jhon washed up with a fresh spray of deodorant and a shirt and we sat around with our shoes taken off.

You would think we would go home right after that but nope. We headed to Bukit Panjang Plaza for a Swenson’s lunch and walked around at Daiso. We also conveniently managed to find bottles for the red saga seeds.

Now our memories are neatly placed in a bottle (1 for Fizah and 1 for me) and forever hold that story how we got semi-lost and ended up climbing Singapore’s highest hill.

THE END

Souvenirs From Bali

Bali was great and will blog on the days spent but first, I want to share goodies that we have got.

These were gotten on the 2nd day; a compilation of goodies by the three of us.

The ladies in my family love the fans mainly because of the batik design.

As per normal, most items that I bought is for the family and I am proud to say that I bought more than I did when I went to Bangkok (Bought 1 sling bag in a shopper's paradise)

The weird thing is I bought the most random things.

I bought peanuts and coffee.

Not just any peanuts but Capri peanuts which was super delicious and Ginseng Coffee. It was weird because I don't like Gingseng and coffee but these two together, fuwar! I love!

The Ginseng smell is not overwhelming and you don't smell it after a few sips and the coffee does not taste bitter at all.

Another set of souvenirs that I got from Bali are these.

On both of my legs!! I don't know what bit me, sand fly or whatever devil bug but all I know it was itchily-painful!! I was so gross that everyone freaked out in horror okay? =(

Luckily Jhon helped me by massaging the spots with ointment so now it's not that gross. It's mild brown with tolerable random itching.

Sighs, Bali oh Bali, you are too generous with your "souvenirs"

"Leaving on a Jetplane"

Well, the right words would be "Left on Jetstar"

My love, Jhon has left to his hometown in Philippines and nope, for the 1259th time, I did not follow him because he and his family agreed that I shouldn't come until his construction of 3 storey bungalow house is completed.

Jhon will be back only on 12 February 2011 which is 2 weeks from now!!! =(

I got to admit although there were lonely moments like when we would usually go to work and lunch together and that he will always come over to my table to disturb me or suprise me with a hot cup of milo. *loved*

But after several times going through this, it is not that bad. I just miss his companionship the most because I have no one to gossip with. hehe

Until then, online chatting will do. *grins*

Tron Is Forever Tainted

Tron will always be tainted to me.

I am not taking about Tron: Legacy 2010, judging from the trailer where graphics are splendid with dramatic soundtrack.

I am talking about this guy known as the Tron Guy. Back in 2003, he was very popular in the cyberspace for his obsession for Tron to a point he created his very own costume complete with LED lights.

But it goes beyond that. Well, picture says a thousand words.

Don't worry, he soon after started wearing pads for his crotch.

Sucks for me that everytime I see Tron: Legacy advertisement or trailers, that image will pop in my head.

The Exploding 'Keropok Lekor'

I kid you not! While Jhon was helping to fry them, a few cracked and exploded, not in a way that its into small pieces but it definitely burst, enough to splatter hot oil on us.

Quick Info
Keropok Lekor is a famously known Malaysian snack that I absolutely love and mom bought a couple packets of frozen Keropok Lekor at Sheng Siong,Singapore.

I don't know exactly why it burst that way, maybe because it was still semi frozen inside what I know was it an enough pop to spurt hot oil on the both of us.

Jhon was hit mainly on his feet that resulted in mild redness. As for me, I was hit on my right thigh, left forearm and face! I freaked out when I felt heat on my face so I ran to the toilet to wash off the oil, fearing I might have a scar and vaguely wipe off the oil on other areas.

After calming down from , I still felt searing pain on my forearm and I realized that it was worst than I thought.

I quickly applied some medicine for burnt wounds and hope for the best.

I have wonderful splash design on my forearm now.

It was okay for 2 days but since I didn't apply cream on the 2nd day, the wound start to bubble. =(

I was anal retentive on how I place my arm and always freak out when Jhon almost hit it, fearing I might pop the bubble because I know it will hurt more than ever.

It has been 6 days since it happened, the bubble has subsided on its own (without popping!) but still have the splattered scar which is starting to itch.

I am taking good care of it to avoid a scar but if you ask me if it was worth it..

YES! 'Keropok Lekor' is da bomb!! ^_^

Hesitation is Spontaneity’s Enemy

On the 8th of September, I found out a flight 1 for 1 promotion from AirAsia and it was very tempting so I told my Mom about it. She wanted to go but she said she can’t go now since [insert personal reasons here] but she gave me the green card to go on my own.

I excitedly called Jhon about the great news and perhaps we can try to go Langkawi, Malaysia. As usual, Jhon is always keen if the money is right. As soon as we hanged up, I called Fizah, who was at noisy Geylang. We had difficulties communicating due to the noise. We could not discuss more and all I know her answer is yes.

The problem is, none of us has been to Langkawi and don’t know where to start. So I did a quick research on my own and try to gain confidence on my decisions on accommodations, locations and outings.

AirAsia promotion says that its booking period ends on 9th of September so I was thinking, perhaps I can sleep on it and confirm everything the next day.

I woke up with one thing in my mind.

By hook or crook, I will go to Langkawi.

To my disappointment when I wanted to check the flight promo again, it was over.
Turns out they meant 9th September, 12 midnight not 11.59pm.

SIGHS!

If only had my confidence, let my spontaneity take over and not such a people pleaser since I was keen on wanting Jhon & Fizah’s approval on my plans before I book. We could be busy planning what to wear & bring to Langkawi.

I am so regretful to the max since the flights now looked expensive to me compared to the promo.

Oh well, lesson learnt…. Hesitation is Spontaneity’s Enemy. =(

"Bye bye love..."

"... bye bye happiness, hello loneliness, I think I'm a-gonna to cry" - Everly Brothers

My Jhon has left Singapore to be back home in the Philippines for 5 days. Yeah, not a big deal since usually he would go for 1-2 weeks but it is always hard when you have a very loving boyfriend who you would spent most of your everyday with him. hehe

His flight was supposed to be on 12+am on Wednesday but it was rescheduled to 5pm due to Manila's Typhoon Basyang (Conson).

I didn't think it was serious until I found out that 90% of Manila has a power outage and Jhon's hometown is one of them. 20 were found dead thus far. [click here to read more]

Anyways, for the first time since I met Jhon, I did not get to send Jhon to the airport but I am glad to know as I am typing this, he has safely landed in the Philippines.

He has been extra sweet lately by letting me borrow his laptop while my computer is in the "hospital" and later exchanged it with his computer so that he can bring his laptop and we can chat online.

He even enthusiastically bought headphones with mic and a webcam but all is in vain his house has no electricity at the moment. I hope it will recover asap. =(

I hope everything goes well in Manila and everyone is safe.

To think I almost made a spontaneous trip to follow Jhon. =/

Working on a construction site?

Followers of my twitter account would know by now that there is a possibility of me moving to a site office for my Marina Bay tunnel project.

For those who don't know, I work in a construction industry as an Asistant Quantity Surveyor.

Thanks to my new Executive Director, he now insists that all QS is stationed on site instead of the HQ and from my knowledge, this is not neccessary since most of the work can be done at the HQ and QS would visit the site every week for meetings & monitor the progress of work.

But cannot say cannot right?

Anyways, it is not a container site office but an actual 3 storey structural office (4 years project leh) and my mentor will negotiate on the terms since our intial terms state otherwise but I have this feeling that we will still be going to site.

So I got to thinking, is that bad? Thats why I did this.

The more I thought about the politics that I have to deal/witness everyday, the more ideal it is to go to site although I could not hang out with my Jhon at work. I am taking it as a test for us since we are like super glued to each other. hahaha

I really hope everything goes well and smoothly for me when THE day comes, meanwhile, I shall enjoy my pros of working at the HQ.

The sleepy taxi driver

Fizah, Jhon and I went to Queenstown to browse some sports shoes for Fizah which we didn't because we spent too much time at Anchor Point and IKEA haha

Fast forward from the late lunch and window shopping to Jhon buying his TV table and we were waiting for a cab in the rain.

Suprisingly, Fizah tagged along to our place despite the fact that she lives in the North and we live in the East. (had an awesome time btw)

Anyways, we finally got a cab but little did we know, its was a ride of horror!

At first, I did not really pay much attention to the sudden jerky movements of the cab while on the road because i was busy chit-chatting and simply take it as a normal thing. But as the jerks get often and we tend to get honked by our drivers, I was more aware of the driver.

I looked to my left to look at Jhon and he already has this concerned look so I tried looking at the driver via the rear view mirror.

Driver was SLEEPY!! he even closed his eyes and tilted his head and woke up and that is when the cab would jerk.

I was so worried that I held Jhon's hand tight and wondering if should we wear our seatbelts (yea, i know, we should be wearing it in the first place). I have never been this scared before in a car and we can't ask him to stop and drop us somewhere else because we were at the highway.

And as we were reaching our destination while Jhon was guiding him to the minor roads, Uncle told us that he has hearing problems. *facepalm*

Fortunately, we arrived safe and sound but that was definitely an experience we will never forget.

What if we had an accident and died? It would be "funny" news to read by people who knows us.

Headlines: "Friends who always spend time together, died together."

Can a Teacher mark you wrong for spelling a name differently?

We all know that spelling of names is subjective. In the past, it was wrong because of a spelling mistake or wrong pronunciation that is projected into words.

When I was in Kindergarten/ Primary school, during English lesson, I would tend to get some of the names wrong and I will lose marks. =(

[Re-enacted =P]

One of my favorite names I like to use was “John” and no matter how careful I was, I always spelt it as “Jhon” so I stopped using that name to avoid losing marks due to “careless mistake” to Jack or Bala or Siti or something.

Little did I know, more than 20years in the future, I would be in a relationship with a man named “Jhon” So HAH! I am correct after all. ‘Cher! I want my marks back!!!

But now, to spell names differently is somewhat is an in-thing where the parents would purposely change the spelling to stand out also known as homonyms; different spelling but sounds the same.

Example:

Syikin > Shikin > Shikyn

Brian > Bryan > Brien

So do teachers still mark a student as wrong when a name is not spelled the textbook way?

Is it wrong to do so?

P/S: I don't have to try to write in kiddy handwriting, that was my actual handwritting and marked by my Jhon. FML

Bad Friday

Though it is not the worst day i ever had but nobody likes a bad day right?

The whole day it already seems that i felt that i am like a fully stretched rubber band just waiting for that perfect moment to snap.

Sure i try to be positive and try to chill but things just won't go smoothly. Two prominent happenings would be..

When Jhon dropped his Ray Ban sunglasses (original and a birthday gift from me) at East Point Mall when he tried to hang it on his shirt. As soon as he was about to pick it up, a lady accidentally kicked it! It's ok, an accident right? but she kicked it THE SECOND TIME and it flew another 1 meter away! Wtf? She was wearing slippers, how can she not noticed that she kicked something out of nowhere?

Out of anger, i shouted "OI!" at her when i saw she kicked it the second time. I was afraid that due to her ignorant stupidity, she would kick it again. If i didn't shouted at her, she wouldn't stop at her tracks and noticed what the hell she was kicking! Damn pissed but luckily the sunglasses seems to be in an okay condition.

The other one is regarding work. Currently, i am busy helping with tender submissions (i am in the construction industry) and i dutifully prepared all the standard work of printing and putting the reports together(including 2 copies of 4 volumes). Technically, i completed everything i need to do, all what is remaining is on my co-worker's side.

At the last minute, they told me, they made some design changes and need to revise ALL the method statements, etc; meaning, i have to REPRINT everything. Submission date & time is Monday at 4pm.I checked my work and i can do all that on Monday morning so its not an issue.

BUT! they are throwing ideas about how WE need to do over time tonight and probably Saturday. Wtf? Why would i OT to do just printing? I have done everything, all they have to do is print and replace. They need my help for THAT? serious?

10 minutes before knock off time, another irritating person comes over and sat on MY desk to talk to my co-worker who is sitting BEHIND me! i was damn irritated that i stormed off to Jhon's table to chill. When i came back, he was gone but i received an email from my other co-worker.

She wrote:

"Do u know that that auntie behind u told our friend that she is very busy with the tender. Only done by her and Teresa. U only help in minor role only. Wow, like that also got to cheek to say she very busy! Did she help in the submission?

One thing I know, she is very busy in. busy in talking and talking. Haha……"

Minor role huh? If it is such a fucking minor thing, why the fuck they need my fucking help?

I know they are doing the costings and measurements and i just did preparation of submission but its damn tedious to get all the information together ok? Like i said, if its damn easy, why do they need and insist for my help?

And yes, the woman does talk ALOT. She has so many stories and always eavesdrop on people. Jhon and I calls her the Chatterbox. Damn irritated! Eventually, i just went home after the Project Manager agreed that i could just do the printing on Monday morning. HAH!

I later found out that the Chatterbox did not want to OT either but when she asked if she could go home, she was ignored. BWAHAHA!

sighs

Actually, i lied, there is another bad prominent thing that happened but i don't want to talk about it. It's too personal but let's say despite my celebratory escape from OT, the day didn't officially end well.

Thank God a day has only 24hours and about 1/4 of it is spent sleeping.

I hope tomorrow is a better day.

Crazy About FML

For those who have yet encountered FML [Fuck My Life], it’s a site where everyone posts incidents that happened to them that totally sucked. The story has to start with “Today” and ends with “FML”. Posts are moderated so only the best will be up on the site.

I knew about this place since last year when it just started where most of the posts are from Europe but FML now has been spreading like wildfire to other countries.

Ever since, I have been religiously reading FMLs almost every day because well, to be honest, it feels good that someone’s life sucks more than me. haha Plus, most of the posts are freaking hilarious!!

I’m so addicted to FML that I have it RSS fed to my work email so I am constantly updated at work and it looks like I am reading my work mail ^_^

A few months back, they started to have illustrations of FML posted. It’s hard to please though because everyone is a critic. Some find the illustrations are not relatable/exaggerated/bad. These illustrations are also posted by readers and once in a while, a known cartoonist posted one.

You got to check it out! FMLs will totally make your day knowing that someone got it bad compared to you. If you think you got it worst, well, post it up and see if everyone thinks so too.
