Formula Drift Asia 2012 Day 2

I am finally finishing this super uber over due Formula Drift Asia 2012 post.

So day 2 is packed because well, it's the event day.

Canon camera owners were very lucky because they had a chance to take photos from the Canon podium for 10-20 minutes.

The weather hot but windy and I knew for sure I will can tanned.

Drivers threw freebies and some where bad at aiming =X

Anyways, the competition was awesome!

The race was aggressive with many accidents. hehe Don't worry, nothing severe, just the standard bumper drops.

At the last leg, it was head to head with Daigo Saito and Rio Saputro Budhardjo.

In the end, Daigo Saito the defending champion won! Rio said he was trying real hard to match up to Saito until he lost control.

It was an amazing race! Thank you Motul for the opportunity!

Formula Drift Asia 2012 Day 1

So I got my hands on a pair of tickets for Formula Drift Asia this year by joining a contest. The icing on the cake was I got grandstand tickets. Yey! The last time I went was 2010 and I didn't get to see much because my brother sent our parents, Jhon and I too late.

This time around, it's just Jhon and I at the Changi Exhibition Centre.

Day 1 is a qualifying round for all drivers. We came by at 2:15pm, just in time to check out the area and autograph session with all drivers.

Do you recognize any of them?

After checking out the drivers, we checked out their cars and crew at their pits. It's been a while since I am this close to a drifting car. There were plenty of Nissan Silvias.

This is reminded me of my brother's old car.

Close to 2:45pm, we headed to the grandstand to get ready for the race.
Check out the track!

By then, the best seats were already taken but it was okay. The view was only slightly obstructed. Our area was quite empty so we acted like we owned the place =P

The qualifying round was not so hot in the beginning. Scores were mostly zero but after the amateurs had their chance, the real drifters showed how it was done.

Although some drivers like the "Prince of Drift", Tengku got too aggressive and got zero points, he managed to get himself in the top 16. Tengku leh... Loads of money to practice in his backyard. haha

See Daigo Saiko's score, if I am not mistaken the highest among them all. He is after all the defending champion!

Will he be crowned champion on Day 2?
Those who had watched the competion on ESPN, read it on the net, please keep quiet! lol
This is clearly a long overdue post. =P

The Fantastic Fast Five

Thanks to OMY, I was invited to watch the premiere of Fast & the Furious 5 best known as
 Fast Five

I know, right? Who is the genius who thought of such a fantastic title?! =P

Jhon was an ultimate fan but ever since Fast & Furious (4), I was no longer grew fond of it because the story plot went downhill and was wondering if Fast Five will follow suit.

Oh boy was I wrong; the cars, the plot, the cars, the script and did I mention the cars?
[It’s a movie about cars, Zura, of course there are a lot of cool cars! -_-]

Clearly this movie is strictly about action, explosions, men sweating, skinny girls and of course, cars. Don’t expect much realism or it will ruin your viewing pleasure. I am most displeased with the “Cars pulling the safe” part. It’s beyond physics but okay-okay, it is just a muscle-head kind of movie anyways.

Well, there were a couple of heart softening moments where Dom showed his Mr Softy side (you know, for the ladies who don’t like action movies), a very very sad part where a Chevrolet Corvette was drowned and awesomely cool car chases.

I also like the part they play police and thief on roof tops at Rio. Ever since that, I have made it my ultimate goal to play catch with Jhon and Fizah specifically at Rio. *determined face*

Naturally, there were also fight scenes and the main fight would be between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson. It was quite a fair match since both have similar body size and the fact that they both are bald. But sadly, as everyone was engrossed with 2 burly men kicking each other’s asses,

I drifted to this image….

I TOLD YOU! BURLY MEN SHOULDN’T ACT IN SUCH MOVIES!! THEY ONLY TAINTED PEOPLE’S MINDS!!

Luckily I managed to brush it off and continued watching.

Fast Five have their mini twists too and PLEASE wait till the end of the movie pre-credit animation clip because there is more to see! Like a Ghost! That is the best I can say without giving a spoiler. Trust me okay? I am not kidding. I smell a “Furious Six”

Fast Five…. Watch it!

The sleepy taxi driver

Fizah, Jhon and I went to Queenstown to browse some sports shoes for Fizah which we didn't because we spent too much time at Anchor Point and IKEA haha

Fast forward from the late lunch and window shopping to Jhon buying his TV table and we were waiting for a cab in the rain.

Suprisingly, Fizah tagged along to our place despite the fact that she lives in the North and we live in the East. (had an awesome time btw)

Anyways, we finally got a cab but little did we know, its was a ride of horror!

At first, I did not really pay much attention to the sudden jerky movements of the cab while on the road because i was busy chit-chatting and simply take it as a normal thing. But as the jerks get often and we tend to get honked by our drivers, I was more aware of the driver.

I looked to my left to look at Jhon and he already has this concerned look so I tried looking at the driver via the rear view mirror.

Driver was SLEEPY!! he even closed his eyes and tilted his head and woke up and that is when the cab would jerk.

I was so worried that I held Jhon's hand tight and wondering if should we wear our seatbelts (yea, i know, we should be wearing it in the first place). I have never been this scared before in a car and we can't ask him to stop and drop us somewhere else because we were at the highway.

And as we were reaching our destination while Jhon was guiding him to the minor roads, Uncle told us that he has hearing problems. *facepalm*

Fortunately, we arrived safe and sound but that was definitely an experience we will never forget.

What if we had an accident and died? It would be "funny" news to read by people who knows us.

Headlines: "Friends who always spend time together, died together."

Toys Galore

I finally bought a 1:18 die cast car for Jhon since I lost to a lame bet. We went to my favorite shop, Nikko at Millenia Walk. I will tell you why it is my favorite later. *grins*

Anyways, Jhon chose to get a Limited Edition 1969 Chevrolet Corvette. I gotta say... wow!

It even comes with an authenticity certificate.

I really like the rims

ok, why is Nikko is my favorite shop? It is not only because of the cool cars they have, they also have Meccano design set! It is my newly found craze at the moment. I have been always been crazy about Mechanical Art and i am starting small with Meccano. I have 5 small (103 pieces) designs so far and i am adding one more.

Unfortunately, due to my excitement and exhaustion, i broke one of the parts while building it. I was so upset but i decided to continue to complete it irregardless.

At this view, it looks pretty ok.

But you can see the problem here.

Jhon being the sweet guy he is, the next morning, he LIED to me by saying he going to do his laundry but actually, secretly went to buy me another Meccano design that i was checking out the day before to cheer me up. 1000 points for actually giving me an actual surprise because he usually gave it away too soon.

Another 1000 points for buying me the awesome airplane!! i is happy. I only managed to spend a couple of hours with it but it is almost done.

AND!

With Jhon's itchy fingers, he managed to find the die cast car that he has been searching for! Ford GT. I was abit hesistant since he JUST bought a car and its not practical to get another so soon but I know he won't stop whining for it since he really wants that specific model. So we met the ebay guy who was very nice btw, checked the car out and $$$$.

Just like that.

But we are happy and satisfied. So bluek! =D
