Silo At Pulau Damar Laut

My company recently conducted a learning trip to other construction sites done by fellow subsidiaries. It had started months ago but mostly overseas so there was a selected group but this time, since it’s in Singapore, the company was more generous. It was opened to whoever was interested.

What is a silo? It is an enormous container for storage like sugar and flour; for this case, its cement. Jhon was the draughtsperson who did the post tensioning for this project.

Along with 8 other people, we headed to Jurong Port to make our pass so we can enter Pulau Damar Laut. It was fairly fast. It’s just that there were 8 of us so it took some time. We were lucky that the day was cloudy unlike the day before and the previous group kept complaining about the heat.

The project site was small compared to the projects I dealt with because it was after all, just a silo when I handled projects like tunnels. Since we had 3 guys from BCA with us, the Project Manager and Project Co-ordinator had to do a PowerPoint presentation which covers need to know basis and challenges faces on the project.

This is an opening for so that trucks can enter and exit for construction purposes and after the project’s completion, loading and unloading of cement.

The weather was perfect for picture taking.

I swear this is the first time I do self shots at site, especially with people around. I guess I was in a good mood. Haha

The silo was at 32m in height at that day. The team tried to achieve 2.2m everyday and it’s a 24HR job.

Rebars and the aluminium looking tube is post-tensioning works.

Attempt at panorama shot.

There were plenty of group photos taken with everyone’s cameras but mine. I didn’t bother since it would be the same but after a week; no one has yet passed me a copy. Oh well!

We left at 1:30pm and reached the office at 5:10pm. I had no mood to continue to work and it was a good it was Friday. I spent the last office hour doing random stuff. Shhh! Overall, it was an interesting visit.

Shopping at Bukit Indah

Jhon and I went to Bukit Indah, Johor to look for some clothes and maybe accessories. If we got money to spare, we might buy a pair of shoes for Jhon; at least, that was the deal. We headed out at 8:15am all the way to Jurong Bus Interchange to take bus CW3. The day was brighter than usual.

The journey was quite smooth with a small crowd as expected at 10am and as soon as we reached Bukit Indah, we attacked Secret Recipe for brunch. We were HUNGRY!

I ordered 3 Cheeses Spinach Lasgne with Iced Honey Lemon Tea while Jhon ordered Beef Stew Steak with Mushroom Black Pepper Sauce with Iced Latte Mocha. We also ordered spring rolls and we gobbled that up first in a minute. Haha

This is obviously not my first time for a quick trip to Johor but this is definitely the first time I actually shopped as intended! The last time I went there, I bought 1 hair scrunchy. But this time, many-many stuff wor! I practically used 99% of money brought in when usually I used 1%.

My buy of the day would be my polka dotted fitted baju kurung bought at S$24. I love it how it fits me and it freaking breathable! Jhon found a songkok while waiting for me to try my clothes. I had to take a shot. Pardon the blurriness because I don’t usually do this. Shy and embarrassed to be caught in the act. Haha

Jhon is also considering on buying a blazer for our company's dinner and dance in September since he overgrew his coat jacket. He tried it on for fun and we would probably come again as the date comes closer.

By 4pm, we were done. Subtracting hours we used to eat, I suppose it was quite fast but then again, I am a fast shopper. We headed home when the sun was still shining brightly. Frankly speaking, we prefer this way because there is less traffic and journey home wouldn’t seem so dreadful.

Anyways, we had a wonderful time. Jhon was the one empty handed this time but he was happy that I bought stuff for myself since I hardly do.

The Failed Adventure (Cove)

After weeks of discussing, my family finally managed to unanimously agree on a date to go to Adventure Cove at Sentosa. Have you seen the pictures there? The rides looked awesome! We even managed to get discounts so how can we resist?

Everything was perfectly planned.

While Shibly went to his Saturday morning class, the rest of us got ready and packed our bags. By the time, he finished his class, we ate breakfast together and off we went to Sentosa.

For the first time, bro’s car was the first to arrive instead of my BIL’s so the smokers had their smoke break and the kids had their play time warm up.

The sun was bright and shiny and when we arrived at Adventure Cove, it was not as crowded as I thought. It was quite tolerable. The parents dressed the kids first and yup, as expected, they can’t wait to dip in, leaving half of the group struggling with keep the bags in the locker.

The first ride was the wadding river which was AWESOME! It had themed sections so it made the ride more interesting and fun.

Unfortunately, my bro and family had a head start because of impatient Syihab so we didn’t manage to get shots of them. =(

Anyways, we were almost done with the ride when it started to RAIN!! It was a drizzle at first and it started to rain HEAVILY, no joke!

For safety reasons, we were asked to leave the ride and that also means all rides in the park will be closed too!! OMG! That was definitely a downer.

I tried to make the best of it by making sandcastles and encourage everyone to play in the rain. Lol Then what? Wait out in the cold? After just entering the park for 30-45 minutes?

We also decided to explore in the rain and hopefully manage to find my long lost bro and his family and lo and behold, we found them, seeking shelter, cold, along with other visitors. We shouted and whistled for them and insisted we just play in the rain. And played we did.

Unfortunately, it was raining so heavily that the Go Pro Hero’s lens was heavily marked by raindrops so most pictures were blurred. It was the first time the kids get to play in the rain and it was fascinating for them especially Syihab who was just sitting there, smiling sweetly and stuck out his tiny red tongue at the side of his mouth to taste the rain. It was cuteness overload.

I remember growing up playing in the rain too. We must let kids do that once in a while. It was fun and liberating.

At one point, the rain subsided so we started to queue to one of the rides and it was really a big teaser. The ride was already opened and we were probably next after 4 -5 pairs of people and it started to RAIN AGAIN! DAMMIT! So the closed the ride again and we had to wait outside!

Naturally everyone started to feel exasperated and not to mention hungry. I tried very hard to be optimistic but it was 45mins to 6pm (closing time) and there is no point waiting any longer so we decided to head to the showers.

Taking a shower and changing was frustrating too. There were limited number of showers (Public swimming pools has more shower rooms) so we ended up just changing and decided to shower thoroughly at home.

Hungry, we went to the nearest restaurant we know which was Breeks at VivoCity. At this point, mom was starting to feel sick again, majority was tired as if we had took all the rides and Shibly was fast asleep.

Food was okay only and we headed home; disappointed.

Adventure Cove, we shall not quit, we will be back!! *waving fists*
